David Lucas studied Electronics and Communications Engineering at the University of Bristol, receiving the M. Eng. degree in 2007. Subsequently, he worked for three years at the then “Centre for Communications Research” at the University of Bristol as a research associate in the field of modem design for millimetre wave communications.
During his degree, he gained industrial placement experience in the fields of semiconductor process tool design (Aviza/SPTS Technologies), industrial process electronics (Tryton Foods), defence electronics (Thales) and radio communications (Toshiba).
In 2010, he commenced his training as a patent attorney in the UK with a British patent firm, and moved to Munich in 2012. He was admitted as a European Patent Attorney in 2015, as a UK Patent Attorney in 2018, and as a Representative before the Unified Patent Court in 2023. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, a member of the European Patent Institute, and a member of the Patentanwaltskammer.
David Lucas joined WUESTHOFF & WUESTHOFF in 2024, following ten years at two other German firms in Munich. His legal practice encompasses patent drafting, conducting and advising on UK, EPC, and international patent grant proceedings, and patentability analyses, as well as EPO opposition, and freedom to operate. He is particularly familiar with the technical fields of electronics, computer implemented inventions, communication technology, and medical electronics.
