| Subsequent extension of protection | The geographical protection of an International Trademark may be extended to additional countries by a subsequent extension of protection after the International Trademark has been registered. Advice for use in practice: If the trademark is supposed to be used in a certain country at the time of application, it is usually advisable to apply for the International Trademark for this country right away. In this case, the International Trademark will be granted the seniority of the International Trademark for this country as well. If the country is named in a subsequent extension of protection, however, the International Trademark for this country will receive the seniority of the subsequent extension of protection. |
